Three Health Departments Build Capacity by Leveraging Partners and Existing Datasets

This month’s column highlights the capacity building efforts of three health departments through existing partnerships, programs, and data. You will learn how San Bernardino survived its terrible tragedy through mutual aid agreements in order to provide its community with environmental health services and how the department is starting to “stand on its own.” You will read about the city of Evanston’s work on leveraging the city’s existing 311 service to provide food facility scores and inspection data. Finally, you will learn how Sacramento has utilized existing data sets to pinpoint new businesses that use/store hazardous materials.
