On Wednesday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. EDT, experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are hosting a Twitter Town Hall to answer questions about lead poisoning in observance of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 25-31).
The scope of environmental health work includes both indoor and outdoor spaces as well as community planning and design. Environmental health practitioners often work with community planners, policy makers, public health nurses, and building supervisors to ensure that public health is protected, both in their home and outside.
Health Impact Assessments (HIA) is a fast-growing field that helps policy makers make decisions by bringing together scientific data, health expertise and public input to identify the potential—and often overlooked—health effects of proposed new laws, regulations, projects and programs.
Healthy Homes programs focus on the importance of family and children's health within their home. Whether it is radon infiltration of the presence of vectors or other public health pests, creating a living environment that is free from potential irritants and contaminants allows families and children to thrive.
The HUD Secretary's Award for Healthy Homes highlights some of the nation's most significant work on the relationship between living environments and resident health, and lays the foundation for future healthy homes work. Application period opens on February 13 and is open through March 29. Winners were announced at the Annual Education Conference July 9-12, 2019 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through its Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH), and in partnership with the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), is proud to announce the annual HUD Secretary’s Awards for Healthy Homes.
HUD recognizes excellence in making indoor environments healthier through healthy homes research, education, and program delivery, especially in low-to-moderate income communities. HUD partners with NEHA as both organizations share a common vision to create healthier home environments in the U.S. by working across the health, environment, and housing sectors.
The awards provide a national platform to showcase results from a range of housing and indoor environmental health programs. The awards highlight some of the nation’s most significant work on the relationship between living environments and resident health and lays the foundation for future healthy homes work.
